Toronto Maple Leafs superstar, Mitch Marner, is on the best tear of his career.  Since returning from Covid-19 protocol, he’s on a career high seven game goal streak.

In the last seven games, Marner has eight goals and eight assists.  That’s 16 points in seven games!  It’s amazing considering he hadn’t played for a month and a half before the streak began. (stats from HockeyReference.com)

On the season, Mitch Marner now has 14 goals and 37 points in 33 games.  His points per game is now second on the Toronto Maple Leafs after Auston Matthews, and his goals per game is third behind Matthews and Ilya Mikheyev.

It’s great to see Marner playing with confidence again.  Previous to this streak, he wasn’t looking comfortable at all and was way off his usual pace with only six goals and 21 points in 26 games.  (Although the advanced numbers were always strong).  It’s crazy that he’s more than doubled his seasonal goal total in the last seven games.

It’s also wonderful to see Marner scoring on the powerplay.  After going 100 games without a powerplay goal, Marner has scored three powerplay goals in the last six games.  He did have 28 powerplay assists during his drought though and added two more during his recent streak.

The Toronto Maple Leafs powerplay in general has been massively outperforming last season’s powerplay.  This season, the Leafs powerplay is accomplishing a league leading 30.5% accuracy where last season’s powerplay finished 16th in the league at 20%.

Mitch Marner also scored a short-handed goal during his streak to tie him with Ilya Mikheyev for the team lead with two short-handed goals.  That also puts him fifth in the entire NHL so far this season.

Toronto Maple Leafs Dynamic Duo Top NHL’s Leading Scorers This Week

With three goals and seven points in two games, Mitch Marner leads the NHL in points this week.  Marner’s linemate, the amazing Auston Matthews, is right behind him with four goals and six points while Mason Marchment (formerly of the Toronto Maple Leafs), has two goals and six points in two games this week.

It would be amazing to see the dynamic duo of Marner and Matthews honoured in the NHL Stars of the Week.  The last time a Toronto Maple Leafs player received a weekly star was when Jack Campbell was second star one week in November.  Auston Matthews was named NHL Star of the Month in December.
