The 2021-22 season has not been smooth sailing for the Toronto Maple Leafs or the rest of the NHL but that hasn’t deterred Vegas bookmakers and betters. Despite the lack of hockey being played, bets continue to be made. Coming to the end of 2021, we look at the lines for Toronto Maple Leafs futures bets.

For those unfamiliar with the term, futures is a gambling term, meaning what will happen in the distant future instead of wagering on individual games. Prior to the start of the season, we looked at the odds of various futures options including the chances of the Maple Leafs winning the Stanley Cup. Thanks to WynnBET, we can see how the lines have changed.

We will be using American Odds, known as the Moneyline, to evaluate each of the futures options. These odds are preceded by either a plus (+) or a minus (-). On a successful wager, both return the original bet, but there is a significant difference in what is won. To help those unfamiliar, we will use the last game the Maple Leafs played as a betting example. They played the Edmonton Oilers in on Dec 14. The lines for that game were:

Toronto Maple Leafs – 120
Edmonton Oilers  +110

A successful better who placed a wager on the Leafs received -120 odds on the team winning the game. In order to win $100, the gambler needed to drop $120. By creating that $120 bet, the ticket would return both the $100 profit plus the return of the initial stake of $120 for a total of payout of $220.

Though the Leafs won that contest 5-1, had the Oilers been victorious, a $100 bet on them would have won the better $110. Combining the stake and profit would have paid a successful ticket a total of $210.

Winning the Atlantic Division

Tampa Bay Lightning +140
Toronto Maple Leafs +175
Florida Panthers +225
Boston Bruins +1750
Detroit Red Wings +10000
Buffalo Sabres +50000
Ottawa Senators +50000
Montreal Canadiens +50000

Placing a bet here is wagering on a team to have the best record in the Atlantic Division at the conclusion of the regular season. Things haven’t changed much for Toronto. The opening lines were +220 to win the division. That had them with the second best odds behind only the reigning Stanley Cup Champions, Tampa Bay Lightning, at +130. WynnBET believes things have improved for the Leafs. The lightning dropped slightly to +140 and the Leafs moved to +175. Also, the Florida Panthers, who started the year at +550, is now third at +225.

Winning the Eastern Conference

Tampa Bay Lightning +350
Toronto Maple Leafs +375
Florida Panthers +450
Carolina Hurricanes +500
Washington Capitals +650
New York Rangers +800
Boston Bruins +900
Columbus Blue Jackets +4000
Detroit Red Wings +4000
New York Islanders +4000
Philadelphia Flyers +4000
New Jersey Devils +10000
Buffalo Sabres +15000
Ottawa Senators +15000
Montreal Canadiens +15000

Oddsmakers believe that the Toronto Maple Leafs have a strong chance at winning the Eastern Conference. Once again, they fall just behind the Lightning for the second best odds. They are also once again followed by the Panthers, suggesting that the Atlantic Division is by far the strongest division in the conference. Gamblers got a great line on the Leafs at +600 prior to the start of the season, especially now that it is +375.

The most important odds are those to win hockey’s biggest prize, Lord Stanley’s Mug. While that is the goal of every NHL team, gamblers don’t need to take such a big risk. They can bet on something as simple as whether the Maple Leafs will even gain entry to the postseason.

Will the Toronto Maple Leafs Make the playoffs:

Yes -10000
No +1500

In order to make $100, gamblers would need to risk $10,000 on Toronto to clinch a spot in the playoffs. There’s an extremely good chance that they’ll win that bet but the price of a ticket just isn’t worthwhile. Instead, risk takers may look at putting their money on the Leafs winning the Stanley Cup instead.

Winning the Stanley Cup

Colorado Avalanche +600
Vegas Golden Knights +600
Tampa Bay Lightning +650
Toronto Maple Leafs +750
Florida Panthers +900
Carolina Hurricanes +1100
Minnesota Wild +1300
Washington Capitals +1300
New York Rangers +1500
Calgary Flames +1750
Pittsburgh Penguins +1750
Boston Bruins +2000
Edmonton Oilers +2000
St. Louis Blues +2000
Anaheim Ducks +3000
Nashville Predators +3000
Dallas Stars +4000
Winnipeg Jets +4000
Detroit Red Wings +7500
Los Angeles Kings +7500
New York Islanders +7500
Philadelphia Flyers +7500
San Jose Sharks +7500
Vancouver Canucks +7500
Columbus Blue Jackets +10000
Chicago Blackhawks +20000
New Jersey Devils +20000
Buffalo Sabres +25000
Ottawa Senators +25000
Seattle Kraken +25000
Montreal Canadiens +50000
Arizona Coyotes +250000

Most bookmakers across Vegas feel like the Colorado Avalanche have the team to win it all. They share the best odds at +600 with the Vegas Golden Knights to hoist the cup. Not far behind are the Eastern Conference teams. Tampa leads that group at +650 and the Toronto Maple Leafs follow at +750.

Prior to the start of the season, the Leafs were given odds of +1500 to win it all. While it’s a good sign that the lines have already improved significantly, the best value would have been for betters who believed in the Panthers before their first game. Over the summer, gamblers were given a line of +3000 to win the Stanley Cup. Those same odds were also shared by a pair of Canadian teams, the Oilers and the Montreal Canadiens. The Panthers are now +900, the Oilers are +2000, and the hapless Habs have fallen so far off the map that they are now +50000 to win the cup.

Individual Player Awards Odds

Toronto Maple Leafs Fans not only cheer on their team but most support the players as well. Gamblers can combine their fandom with the opportunity to make some money (though experienced betters would caution against allowing personal feelings and loyalties to intermingle with sports betting) on individual players’ successes.

Hart Memorial Trophy

The Hart Memorial Trophy is awarded to the NHL’s most valuable player in the regular season. While there has been some outstanding play by a pair of Oilers who look like the early favourites, Auston Matthews is a legitimate contender to capture this award for the first time. If Matthews were to win, he’d be the third Toronto Maple Leafs player to get the trophy and the first since Ted Kennedy won it in 1954-55.

Connor McDavid +125
Leon Draisaitl +350
Alexander Ovechkin +550
Auston Matthews +1000
Nathan Mackinnon +2500
Artemi Panarin +2500
Aleksander Barkov +3000
Sebastian Aho +4000
Anze Kopitar +4000
Andrei Vasilevskiy +4000
Patrice Bergeron +5000
Jack Campbell +5000
Kyle Connor +5000
Sidney Crosby +5000
Aaron Ekblad +5000
Adam Fox +5000
Connor Hellebuyck +5000
Jonathan Huberdeau +5000
Patrick Kane +5000
Steven Stamkos +5000
John Tavares +5000
William Nylander +7500
Mitchell Marner +10000
Petr Mrazek +10000

If Connor McDavid is able to win the award, it will be his third time. He was last season’s recipient after his teammate, Leon Draisaitl, won the trophy one year prior. There is a very good chance that the Oilers will three-peat the Hart thanks to the explosive start McDavid and Draisaitl have had filling the stat sheets.

James Norris Memorial Trophy

The James Norris Memorial Trophy gets awarded to the best regular season defenseman. The Toronto Maple Leafs best chance at winning this award lies with Morgan Rielly at +5000. The Maple Leafs have never had a player win the Norris Trophy and it appears that that isn’t going to change in 2022.

Cale Makar +300
Adam Fox +400
Victor Hedman +500
Aaron Ekblad +800
Roman Josi +1000
Charlie McAvoy +1750

Vezina Trophy

The Vezina Trophy is awarded to the NHL’s best goaltender. This is the Toronto Maple Leafs best chance at winning an individual player award. That’s because of the strong play demonstrated by Jack Campbell. He has the second best odds to capture the award.

Andrei Vasilevskiy +450
Jack Campbell +700
Igor Shesterkin +750
Connor Hellebuyck +800
Jacob Markstrom +1000
Frederik Andersen +1100
Sergei Bobrovsky +1200
Tristan Jarry +2000
Robin Lehner +2000
Juuse Saros +2000
Ilya Sorokin +2250
Jordan Binnington +2500
Darcy Kuemper +2500
Thatcher Demko +3000
Marc Andre Fleury +3000
John Gibson +3000
Carter Hart +3000
Elvis Merzlikins +3000
James Reimer +3000
Cam Talbot +3000
Semyon Varlamov +3000
Chris Driedger +4000
Petr Mrazek +4000

If one of the Maple Leafs managed to win the Vezina, it would be the first time since 1965 when Johnny Bower and Terry Sawchuk shared the award. It was Bower’s second win making him and Turk Broda the Leafs franchise’s only two-time Vezina Trophy winners. Incredibly, despite his injuries, there is a real chance that Campbell brings the award back to Toronto.
