How often has former Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Petr Mrazek been injured throughout his career?

The Toronto Maple Leafs didn’t find much success with Mrazek when they acquired him for the 2021-22 season, and they have since offloaded him to the Blackhawks where he continues to constantly get injured.

Selected in the 5th Round of the 2010 NHL Draft, Mrazek started his career with the Detroit Red Wings back in 2012 after spending two years working his way up the ranks.

Here’s a look at some of his most notable injuries, as well as an update on the injury he recently sustained in October 2022.

Petr Mrazek has dealt with mostly lower-body injuries throughout his pro career.

It started in 2019 when Mrazek was on the Carolina Hurricanes. He was noticeably hurt and unable to do what he does best under net due to being in too much pain to make blocks or saves. He’s had one surgery in his career which was to help heal a severe thumb injury he suffered back in February 2020 during the NHL Playoffs.

Lower-body Injury, 2019

In April 2019, Mrazek had to leave Game 2 of the second-round series against the New York Islanders due to suffering a lower-body injury. He returned to team practice later that week.

Neck Injury, 2020

In February 2020, Mrazek suffered a neck injury against the Toronto Maple Leafs. He ended up having a concussion and missed significant time that season having only started and played in 12 games for the Hurricanes.

Thumb Injury, 2021

In January 2021, Mrazek and the Hurricanes decided it was in his best interest to have thumb surgery to start the rehab process immediately. He suffered a thumb injury against the Dallas Stars in which at first didn’t seem serious until medical results revealed he needed surgery as soon as possible if he expected to be ready to play again anytime soon.

Lower-body Injury, 2021

In May 2021, Mrazek aggravated a lingering lower-body injury when he was still a member of the Hurricanes. He was out indefinitely due to the management staff trying to not push him back into the starting lineup prematurely to have him ready for their eventual NHL Playoffs run.

Groin Injury, 2021

In October 2021, Mrazek suffered a groin injury against the Ottawa Senators. The Maple Leafs backup re-joined the team on Saturday, October 30th, and started the game against the Red Wings.

Mrazek played just one game before re-injuring his groin prior to the Leafs playing the Bruins on Saturday November 6th, 2021.

On December 11, 2021, Mrzaek returned from injury to play the Chicago Blackhawks.

Groin Injury, October 2022

Mrazek was injured in his 3rd game of the year with the Blackhawks, once again injuring his groin.  This was two games longer than his replacement, Matt Murray, made it before being injured with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Summation

Petr Mrazek is a good goalie who can’t catch a break.  He is one of the most injury prone people in the NHL.
