One of the downsides of professional sports is injuries. They affect every team, including the Toronto Maple Leafs.  The injury bug can strike any player at any time.

We all know that the Toronto Maple Leafs best player,  Auston Matthews, had surgery to repair his wrist on August 13th. His recovery time was listed at a minimum of six weeks. He seems to be on schedule with no setbacks.

If he is fully healed on time, he will return at the start of pre-season, which begins on September 25th. That is less than two weeks away, and it will be good to get him back.

Starting the regular season with a fully healthy Matthews is a must for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Once he returns, he will have two and a half weeks to get up to speed before the start of the regular season on October 13th.

More Injury News For The Toronto Maple Leafs

Toronto prospect Rodion Amirov had surgery to repair a broken collarbone suffered in a pre-season game on August 13th. He slid very hard into the boards while skating hard to the net.

On Monday, September 13th his KHL team HC Salavat Yulaev Ufa posted a picture of Amirov back on the ice skating. That is definitely a good sign for him, his KHL team and Toronto management.

His recovery time was listed as three to four weeks, so it appears that he is just slightly behind schedule. Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas will be hoping to see Amirov have a great season in the KHL. The hope is that he will start challenging for a main roster spot next season.

On Monday afternoon, David Alter from The Hockey News reported that Morgan Rielly left the ice in discomfort during a main roster scrimmage. He appears to have pulled or tweaked something.

The good news is that he skated off the ice on his own and didn’t require help to do so. Luke Fox from Sportsnet reported that the injury appears to be to Rielly’s left foot and that it happened during a puck battle in the corner.

Hopefully the injury is not serious and Rielly will not be out for too long.

It would be a major blow to the team if Rielly is out to start the regular season. There was no official word from the Toronto Maple Leafs at the time of this writing regarding the injury, but I’m sure an update will be given after Rielly’s foot is assessed my the team’s medical staff.
