Mikhail Abramov

Mikhail Abramov was drafted in the fourth round of the 2019 NHL entry draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs with the 115th overall pick.  The 20-year-old had three productive seasons with the Victoriaville Tigres of the QMJHL.

In the 2019-20 season, Abramov scored 35 goals and 41 assists for 76 points in 63 games. During a shortened season last year, he recorded 12 goals and 18 assists for 30 points in 25 games.

This season will be his first pro season as he joins the Toronto Marlies in the AHL. Abramov will likely need two full AHL seasons before he is NHL ready.

Prediction: NHL ready by 2023-24 season.

Matthew Knies

Matthew Knies is the Toronto Maple Leafs most recent top pick. They selected him in the second round of the 2021 NHL entry draft with the 57th overall pick.

Last season, Knies recorded 17 goals and 25 assists for 42 points in 44 games for the Tri-City Storm of the USHL. The season before that saw Knies record 14 goals and 31 assists for 45 points in 44 games for Tri-City.

The 18-year-old is already 6’3 and 205 Lbs., with time left to continue growing. He is projected to be a top six power forward with playmaking abilities. He is currently committed to the University of Minnesota for next season.

Hopefully his size will help him do well at the NCAA level and he will transition over to the AHL in the 2022-23 season.

Prediction: NHL ready by 2024-25 season.
