Are the Toronto Maple Leafs the NHL’s Dirtiest Team?

The Toronto Maple Leafs and their new found reputation as complete goons will take on the Winnipeg Whiners tonight on Hockey Night in Canada.

The Toronto Maple Leafs – who, despite a record that makes the season series seem closer than it is – have outplayed the Jets in almost every game this season.

So much so, in fact, that the Leafs should prefer the Jets as a round one opponent – which would basically give them a bye to round two.

Unfortunately, the Jets will most likely finish second and get put out by the Oilers, preventing the Leafs from a gimmee matchup they so very much deserve.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs the Jets

When I was a ten year old nerd, a hideous hag of a substitute teacher named Mrs. South called me up to the front of the class, then sent me back to my seat to try again because she didn’t like my “cool walk.”   I was just walking normally, I didn’t know what to do.

If you ever see me walk in the snow you might think a penguin was on the  loose due to the footprints that point to 2 and 11.  It just turns out that I have some uncorrected knee condition that makes me a) a very slow runner and b) look like I’m always strutting (which I would be anyways, since I’m always wearing a cool jean jacket).

I was reminded of Mrs. South on Friday when several members of the Jets took to the media to call the Leafs a dirty team. The Leafs? The NHL’s Conscientious Objectors?  Like, what are these guys even talking about? Much like my ten year old self, who didn’t even know there such a thing as a “cool” walk, I don’t think the Leafs know how to be a dirty team, and the accusation is ridiculous.

Anyways, this now-steamy rivalry will resume tonight, where the Leafs will try to move to a pretty sweet 6-3 record. With only two games left against each other, the best the Jets can do is tie the series at 5, but they’d have to do so with the shame of knowing that they a) didn’t deserve it and b) called the LEAFS of all teams, dirty.

Keefe Could be Better. dark. Next

That just looks bad on them!  Anyways, look for Jack Original Nickname Campbell to be between the pipes for the Leafs, while hopefully the good guys play a much better game than they did on Thursday.
