1. Auston Matthews is a Goal Per Game and on a Mission

Who else could it be? Auston Matthews is playing on a whole other level this season. He sits with 18 goals and 29 points in 18 games.  Fresh off a four-point outing against the Canadiens, Auston Matthews is on a mission to score 50 in 55 (Auston Missed a game already this season).

If Auston scored at that rate of 50 in 55 games (0.909 GPG) that would the highest goal per game rate since Teemu Selanne in the 1992-93 season where he scored 70 goals in 84 games (via records.nhl.com).

Currently, Auston is scoring at a 1.0 GPG which is astronomical to think of in this era. With that number, it sounds like Auston Matthews is playing bantam rather than in the NHL.

Keep in mind this reel, was made 12 days ago. Since then Auston Matthews has played 6 games and scored another 7 goals and 14 points.

Matthews is the front runner for the Rocket Richard Trophy by a landslide of 6 goals. Odds are that he’s an early front runner for the Hart Trophy and perhaps even the Ted Lindsay Trophy if he can keep up this pace.

Keep it up Auston we’re rooting for you.
