The Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Frederik Andersen is rumoured to be on the trade block.

Should the Toronto Maple Leafs decide to move on from their star goalie, who should they get to replace him? There are a ton of options.

There are a handful of NHL goalies that could replace Andersen if indeed he is traded either this off-season or sometime during the 2020-21 season as he is set to become a UFA in the summer of 2021.

Let’s take a deep dive into three potential goalies that could replace Frederik Andersen if the Toronto Maple Leafs pull the trigger on an Andersen deal.

3. Robin Lehner – 29 years old

2019-20 stats – 36 GP – 19 W – 10 L – 5 OTL – 2.89 GAA – .920 SV%

Career stats – 301 GP – 116 W – 120 L – 45 OTL – 2.72 GAA – .918 SV%

Coming in at number three to start off this list I have current Vegas Golden Knights goalie and partial Toronto Maple Leafs goalie at the trade deadline, Robin Lehner.

Lehner has made a name for himself in the last couple of years on a couple of teams and is also currently helping lead Vegas in the Stanley Cup playoffs as he is playing amazing.

I would love Lehner as the Toronto Maple Leafs goalie if they go out and trade Andersen, however I don’t think it would be a good idea for him to come here. I’m pretty sure we all know about Lehner’s history of mental health and we’re also very aware of how toxic this fan base can be sometimes, so I do not think him and Toronto would be a good mix.

Other than that he would be a great goalie in Toronto, his numbers in the last two to three years have been pretty good and I would think he might make a bit less than Frederik Andersen in free agency as he is set to become a UFA in the 2020 off-season.

Currently making $5M but that was because Chicago signed him in last years off-season and had some space for that and now his salary is retained as he went to Vegas. I could see him making around that same amount on his new deal unless he is willing to take a pay cut depending on the team that signs him. (Stats from NHL.com)
