Remembering Those 5 Toronto Maple Leafs Games in August
It took almost five months for the Toronto Maple Leafs to return and it was all over in seven days.
The Toronto Maple Leafs return felt exactly like an all-inclusive vacation.
On May 26, the NHL announced it’s Return to Play Plan meaning the Toronto Maple Leafs were going to back to work. We didn’t know where they would play, but we did know the Leafs were going to face-off against the Columbus Blue Jackets sometime in July or August.
That was a glorious day and it gave me a light at the end of a tunnel. As I revert back to my previous metaphor, May 26 reminded me of booking a vacation. That booking procedure gives you so much pleasure and something to look forward to.
However, sometimes the planning process is actually more fun than the vacation itself. As you search the internet finding the perfect destination, you’re filled with optimism that this will be the best vacation of your life.
But, sometimes it doesn’t work out that way. Sometimes it turns into seven days from hell and all of that excitement you had for months vanishes. You could say the same thing about the Leafs seven-day trip to the bubble.
Leafs Vacation In Toronto For Seven Days
When the Leafs played Game 1 against Columbus, they felt at home (pun intended). But, as they were checking-in, the hotel screwed up their room and instead of an ocean view they got stuck starring at the airport.
Game 2 was much more relaxing. After settling in, they had the perfect beach day. They drank by the pool, ate steak and lobster and didn’t wake up with a hangover.
It was absolutely beautiful.
As they got to the middle of their vacation for Game 3, they thought about extending it for another week. They were having so much fun and never wanted to leave. But then, they ate some bad fish and their entire body broke-down, keeping them stuck in their hotel room puking all night.
There wasn’t enough Gravel or Tylenol in the world to fix their 24-hour stomach-bug. With that stomach-bug lingering, they rallied super late in Game 4. They skipped the pool all day but they weren’t going to waste this expensive vacation!
With their trip nearing an end, the team decided not to extend their vacation. It would cost way too much money to stay and instead they decided to save their money for next year.
Just like that, the Leafs were sent home in just seven days.
