Led by the Toronto Maple Leafs young talent, Toronto sports fans are living the dream right now.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are the only major sports team in the city without a championship in the past 50 years but that may change soon.
Everyone reading this knows how stacked the Leafs roster is.
They have two of the best 10 offensive players in the NHL (Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner), a prolific winger who is just getting started (William Nylander) and a captain that will do anything to win a Stanley Cup in his hometown (John Tavares).
Add in one of the best Canadian-born defenseman in the NHL (Morgan Rielly), a steady Freddie Andersen and that may be the recipe for a Toronto Maple Leafs Stanley Cup victory.
When (or if) the Maple Leafs win a Stanley Cup, the city of Toronto will go insane.
Toronto is the best sports city in North America
It’s hard to think that anything will ever be as crazy as the Toronto Raptors championship parade, but a Leafs victory would top that.
In the moment, I remember speaking to a number of people asking them if they thought a Leafs parade would be bigger than the Raptors?
Surprisingly, the majority of people thought it couldn’t be topped.
When you look at the Raptors and their fan-base, it’s a beautiful mix of everything Toronto represents. Toronto is very multi-cultured and so is the Raptors fan-base. Every fan has a different story and background, and that unfortunately can’t be said about the Leafs at times.
I’m not saying that the Toronto Maple Leafs don’t have a great mix of fans with different backgrounds, but if you ever go to a game at Scotiabank Arena, it’s a more corporate feel. Instead of jerseys, the lower-bowl is filled with suits and it doesn’t have the same vibe that a Toronto Raptors game does.
Even those people who are fortunate to sit court-side at a Raptors game get loud and passionate compared to the person sitting at a Leafs game with the best seat in the house. That individual seems more focused on not spilling sushi on their $10,000 suit, compared to whether or not the home team wins.
Regardless of the fan-base, the 6ix is currently in it’s best championship window in years.
The Raptors already won an NBA Championship and could repeat. Toronto FC has been to three MLS Cups in four years and has won one championship, while the Toronto Marlies and Raptors 905 have both won championships.
The Toronto Blue Jays have the best young core in baseball and in a 60-game window could make some noise and challenge for their first World Series since 1993. Also, the Toronto Argonauts won two championships in the past decade and could easily win another Grey Cup if a CFL season ever gets going.
Every single team in Toronto has been victorious, except for the team built in the “Original Six.”
Don’t worry Leafs fans, your day is coming soon and it could even be as early as a few months from now.
