The Toronto Maple Leafs season may be halted, but it doesn’t mean Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner aren’t scoring goals.

The Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Calgary Flames 10-0 today thanks to Matthews and Marner.

Yes, you heard that right.

Although the NHL season has stopped, it doesn’t mean that the Leafs are done playing hockey.

Matthews and Marner joined Hockey YouTuber Nasher today to play NHL 20 to entertain and connect with fans. And man, did they not disappoint.

As you can see in the video below, the real-life Matthews was playing as Mitch Marner and received a penalty-shot midway through the third period.

Matthews, as Marner, did the classic ‘dead controller’ fake move and ended up scoring on the penalty-shot to go up 3-0 in the game.

It’s no surprise that Matthews was able to score on the breakaway, because I’m sure he’s very good at the game.

As the NHL 20 cover athlete, you’d have to imagine that he has a ton of experience playing and most likely will only get better as he continues self-isolating at home.

Although the Toronto Maple Leafs have not been able to provide us with real game footage for the last month, it’s refreshing to see Marner and Matthews laugh and have fun while playing NHL 20.

As we continue to sit at home and reminisce about the game we love, it’s social media interactions like this that allow us to interact with our favorite players and see the lighter side of their personality.

Hockey is not going to return anytime soon, but hopefully Marner, Matthews and any other teammates continue to provide us with great content like we saw today.

It may not be real game footage, but at least we were able to remember what it’s like to watch Matthews and Marner on a breakaway for the first time in a while.
