How I Ended Up Buying a Toronto Maple Leafs Martin Marincin Jersey

It all started on Saturday night — the Toronto Maple Leafs were tied with the Vancouver Canucks going into the third period.

While the Toronto Maple Leafs were ready to come out flying, nobody expected what would be coming just 18 seconds into the final frame.

And neither did Martin Marincin.

It was Marincin’s first goal in almost a calendar year. “I was so so happy,” said Marincin (via MapleLeafs.com), “it was good for the team, and I was just excited.”

Not only was this a highlight-reel goal from somebody who rarely scores, but it’s said that all of his goals seem to be like that.

“I’ve come to only expect highlight-reel goals from Marty with the Marlies, it seemed like every time he scored it was a memorable goal.” Said a smiling Sheldon Keefe after the game (via MapleLeafs.com).

Marincin’s goal sparked a lot of laughs throughout the Toronto Maple Leafs and their fans, including myself.

Never underestimate the power of Toronto Maple Leafs twitter.

After the goal, I thought it would be fun to make a bet.

As I saw the retweets rise, I thought to myself, “there’s no way this makes it to 500.”

Yet it kept going up and going up, until around 250 when it slowed down a bit. That was until Adam Wylde, who is a radio host and host of the Steve Dangle Podcast retweeted it.

After that, it was madness.

I said part of it was because of him, but he didn’t think so, “it was going anyway — how could it not have?” Said Wylde in an Instagram message.

It got 500 retweets in just under an hour of tweeting it. So after that, I had to buy a Marincin jersey.

And that’s what I did.

The next day I went down to Scotiabank Arena and went to purchase the jersey at Real Sports Apparel, until a worker said they’re all sold out of the letter “n”.

At this point, I’m wondering what I’d do next. Real Sports was having a deal where if you buy the blank jersey you’d get a free cresting. But that was now thrown out the window and I still needed the jersey.

So I walked across the street to Sport Chek where they helped me out and got me the jersey just before close.

As the worker was cresting the jersey he said, “was this because of his big goal last night?” Which I responded with “yes,” and then explained the story.

I asked if he’s crested a lot of Marincin jerseys and to which he said, “one or two.” We both had a laugh and then I left as an official owner of a Martin Marincin jersey.

It’s a cool story really. Whenever I go out to a Toronto Maple Leafs game or to the square for the playoffs, somebody might ask, “hey, why do you have a Marincin jersey?!”

Which will prompt me to tell them this amazing story.

It’s not everyday that you see a Marincin jersey, and it’s not everyday that you buy one, but it’s all about the memories you make out of it.

Life is what you make of it, and for me, buying this jersey was one of the best ideas ever. Seriously.
