The Toronto Maple Leafs enter the trade deadline day looking to make a move.
It’s mayhem day in the NHL, with the trade deadline closing in, the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to get something done today.
Just 2 weeks ago, the Toronto Maple Leafs were pegged as obvious buyers at the trade deadline, something that turned south fairly quickly after their embarrassing performances against Pittsburgh and Carolina subsequently.
All injuries and other excuses aside, the team failed to show up for the last couple of weeks. They don’t play like a team that is battling to clinch a playoff spot, but they also aren’t going to just give up on the season when they’re in the playoffs (currently) and missing some of their best players.
Nevertheless, there are rumours the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to make some moves before the deadline.
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Tyson Barrie
Word around is that the Toronto Maple Leafs have made a decision and try to trade Tyson Barrie before the trade deadline. A decision that came after the loss against Carolina.
This makes sense, because with Rielly, Muzzin, Holl, Dermott and Sandin locked in, Barrie is really the only one you can move to fix up the blue-line.
The Vancouver Canucks are among the teams that are explicitly interested in acquiring Tyson Barrie from the Toronto Maple Leafs with the intention of resigning him on a long-term deal.
Vancouver is not in possession of their first-round pick for the 2020 NHL draft anymore. Talks about involving defenseman Roy Stecher have led to nothing.
Another potential destination for Barrie could be the Carolina Hurricanes who are rumoured to be looking for a top-four defenseman before the deadline.
Surprisingly enough there is chatter of a potential deal in the making that will see Toronto Marlies prospect Jerremy Bracco shipped out of Toronto.
More surprisingly, the most named destination is to the Boston Bruins.
Despite being a Divisional Rival, Dubas should trade Bracco if the return is something that could hold value in the future. Bracco has been a prospect with the Marlies to long and it’s unlikely he’ll ever play a full season with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Perhaps the best deal Kyle Dubas could realize today would be whatever move he makes to replace Barrie, should he trade him. No word on what that might be.
Yet.
