The Very Latest Toronto Maple Leafs Rumours
The Trade Deadline is just a couple of days away and the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to be active.
You might have heard about this: the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking for a right shot defenseman?
Just kidding, of course you have! It’s all people talk about.
The Leafs will of course be looking to upgrade their defense, but if they can improve their roster anywhere, they will do it.
The Interesting thing about this trade deadline, from a Toronto Maple Leafs perspective, is that they have so few holes.
The roster, from the top down, is very deep. Even with Andreas Johnson done for the year, and with Ilya Mikheyev possibly not coming back, they’ve got an excellent lineup.
With that in mind, here’s a look at some recent rumours:
Toronto Maple Leafs Rumours
In the Last several days, the Leafs have been linked to a ton of different players.
One of the best ones they could get is Vlad Namestnikov, of the Ottawa Senators. The Toronto Maple Leafs have been frequently mentioned as being interested in him, and it appears he is definitely going to be traded by Monday.
Then of course there are the Tyson Barrie rumours.
A healthy Leafs team features Rielly, Muzzin, Holl and they are not going anywhere. Then you’ve got Dermott and Sandin, who I could only see being moved in earth shaking blockbusters.
I’ve argued this means the Leafs might not actually need a defensemen, but it could also mean that Barrie is the prime spot to upgrade.
Rumours here include Rasmus Ristolainen, T.J Brodie, Matt Dumba and Adam Larson.
Hard pass on Risto.
Brodie, I’d be fine with, although I prefer Barrie.
Dumba is interesting. He’s declined this year, but he’s 24 and could rebound. If the Leafs believed in him enough to move on him, I’d trust their judgement.
And a very hard pass on Adam Larson.
I was very happy this week with the Toronto Maple Leafs, not only because of the beat-down they layed on the Penguins, but I loved the fact that they didn’t make a move for any of the second rate D-men who got moved on Tuesday.
Alec Martinez, Brandon Dillon, and Dylan Demelo are fine players, but they aren’t going to be improvements over Dermott or Barrie, and that’s what the Toronto Maple Leafs would need to make a move.
The main rumours out right now include mostly Barrie and Namestnikov. My hope is the Leafs keep the former and trade for the latter.
