Toronto Maple Leafs Trade Rumours Burning Up the Internet

The Toronto Maple Leafs generate a lot of interest on a day to day basis.

But when a legitimate rumour starts to circulate, things get a little crazy if the Toronto Maple Leafs are involved.

Ever since Saturday’s Hockey Night in Canada and Elliotte Friedman’s recent 31 thoughts article, the Leafs rumour mill is on fire.

According to Friedman, Jeremy Bracco, Ben Harpus and Dymtro Timashov have all apparently requested to be traded.

Such are the problems that come with being the deepest team in the NHL.

That these players would request a trade is not surprising.

Bracco was second in AHL scoring last year, and he’s clearly ready for a shot at the NHL, but the Leafs are a stacked team and he hasn’t even gotten a game yet, despite being called up once.

With Andreas Johnson and Ilya Mikheyev going down with injuries and seeing Pierre Engvall and Adam Brooks get into games before him, it’s no surprise he’d want an opportunity with a different team.

Ben Harpur has been in the NHL for a while, but he’s seen other players promoted ahead of him as well and there’s nothing about his game that suggests the Leafs would be interested in using him.

Going to a team with more respect for the old-school game he plays is probably a reasonable request for him to make.

As for Dymtro Timashov, this one is a bit surprising because he has gotten into 29 games and been decent when called upon.

But he hasn’t gotten off the fourth line, and he’s probably like to.  There’s not much chance of that happening in Toronto, and when Mikheyev’s ice time went to Engvall I think the writing was on the wall.

So what can the Toronto Maple Leafs expect to get for these guys?  Will they trade them?

Having NHL depth is important, but Bracco was again passed over this morning when the Leafs recalled Mason Marchment. 

Trades are always fun and it will be interesting to see what the Toronto Maple Leafs do.  They remain strongly linked to Rangers’ goalie Alexandar Georgiev.  

But is it worth giving up assets for a back-up goalie?  Probably not in general, but Georgiev is only 23 and could one day replace Freddie Andersen if his career goes as planned.

Then again, the Toronto Maple Leafs could get themselves an absolutely massive amount of cap space if they want to, and those players could be the key to spending it on someone who’d impact the team every game instead of just once every week-and-a-half.
