This is the year that the Toronto Maple Leafs will finally do it, for the first time since 1967.
I think I just jinxed it, but I’ll say it again – the Toronto Maple Leafs will be your 2020 Stanley Cup Champions.
Now, I know it’s way too early to even judge how far the Leafs go, heck it’s even too early to judge it in the beginning of April. However, I just like to say it because it’s a possibility, and it makes me feel better.
We all know about the three times they’ve been eliminated by the Boston Bruins, and I know – I don’t want to talk about it either. But if I had to guess right now, they will probably face Boston once again in the first-round, and this time they will win.
Now doesn’t that excite you? Because it makes me excited. If you think about it, if the Leafs would’ve beat the Bruins, I believe they would’ve gone all the way.
But they could’ve lost to Columbus or Carolina.
You’re right, they could’ve. However, I don’t believe that “if the Leafs beat Boston they could’ve gone to the finals.”
I do, but I don’t. It’s a little hard to explain, but I’ll try:
I think that if the Leafs beat Boston, they would have taken the momentum they had with them. I mean, they beat the Boston Bruins, they finally slayed the dragon. I can almost guarantee, if they would’ve won that series, they would’ve gotten to the Stanley Cup Finals.
I believe that momentum is a real thing and I know for a fact that the Leafs would be ecstatic after beating the team that eliminated them twice in the last ten years, in horrible fashion.
Just think about it, us fans would be behind them, the whole city would be behind them, and maybe, just maybe all of Canada would be behind them (but probably not).
The road to winning the Stanley Cup
It’s not going to be easy, and it never was. But, if the Toronto Maple Leafs want to win the cup, they’re going to have to stay healthy. Auston Matthews can’t get hurt, nor can Frederik Andersen.
Mitch Marner also has to eventually sign a contract, and who knows when that will be. Mike Babcock also has to be very good, and not be as stubborn as he’s been in the past.
Lastly, they need to play well. The defense has to be really good, the forwards have to be great, and they need to have a reliable goaltending tandem.
They can do it, and I really hope they do. But, it’s the hardest trophy to win and it’s the most gruesome. So they’re going to have go to hell and back to win it.
But I pose this question to you: Do you think they can win it all?
