Writing about the Toronto Maple Leafs is a pretty fun gig.
I won’t beat around the bush here: today is my last day as Managing Co-Editor of Editor in Leaf. In fact, it’s actually my last day at Editor in Leaf in general, with this very article actually being the last one I’ll write on this platform.
It’s weird, you know? This is quite the transition.
I joined Editor in Leaf over two years ago as a dumb 20-year-old with a ton of opinions who was looking for a platform to share them on. This website gave me that. In that time, I’ve become a credentialed reporter for the Toronto Marlies, taken over co-editorial duties, and pumped out roughly one piece per day. Not to mention, the site has gone on to hit traffic over multiple months. We expanded our staff, our coverage, and our outreach. I look back on my time here with great pride.
It’s been a fun ride. Gruelling, at times (the Nylander and current Marner sagas have been ROUGH) but a fun one nonetheless. Alas, it wasn’t going to last forever. All rides must eventually end.
Before I hit the road, however, I want to extend some “thank yous”.
I want to thank James Tanner for being a wonderful partner throughout our entire time running this website, a span which now comes to a close after nearly two full years. James is a tireless worker, an understanding collaborator, and someone I could count on at every single turn of this experience. You may not agree with everything James writes, but one thing you can’t dispute is his character. He’s a great person and I’ll genuinely miss working with him.
Next, I want to thank all of the writers on our staff for their contributions, as well. We employ a group of passionate and dedicated Leaf fans who sincerely care about this team. Editing their pieces and absorbing their opinions was a true pleasure. I may be leaving, but I can assure you, Editor in Leaf is in very good hands.
Lastly, I want to thank you, our loyal readers. We wouldn’t have been able to accomplish what we have without your continued and unwavering loyalty to our website. From making our comment section one of the most engaging I’ve ever seen, to contributing to the “What Do You Think?” series, to all of the other countless benefits you’ve given us, Editor in Leaf’s readership is unmatched.
Thank you. Truly.
By the way, this goes even for those who called me an idiot (or worse) under every article I ever wrote. You gave me two straight years of unparalleled comedy. That is priceless, and my gratitude cannot be communicated in mere words.
I won’t be gone, though. In fact, I’ll be running the show over at The Leafs Nation as Managing Editor. If you miss my dumb opinions (which you assuredly won’t), you know where to find me.
So, this is it. Goodbye, friends. This is their year.
