Toronto Maple Leafs: Possible Mitch Marner Trade Haul

As we enter the dog days of summer Marner has still not signed a contract extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Mitchell Marner or may I say Darren Ferris and Paul Marner seem to be at a standstill with not much action at this point

There are rumours swirling that the Toronto Maple Leafs will get a offer sheet by Columbus but that would mean that Marner would want to go to Columbus, and who really wants to go there?

That doesn’t seem likely to happen.

Possible Trade Scenario

Firstly, I really do not want a trade to happen, nor a offer sheet to be signed as Marner is my favourite player, but if he wishes to leave for money so be it.

In a trade GM Kyle Dubas would surely want someone to replace Marners’ spot in the lineup to play alongside John Tavares along with a top prospect and a 1st rounder.

The perfect partner could be the Carolina Huricanes.

To Toronto: Teuvo Teravainen, Jake Bean, 1st rounder

To Carolina: Marner

The Leafs would be losing a homegrown star that could go on to be a hall of famer for the team he grew up cheering for, but business is business at the end of the day and if Marners’ camp ask is too high and hurts the overall structure of the team there is no point in keeping him.

Marner is a top talent and Carolina would be ecstatic to have him along with Aho.

In return the Leafs would receive Teravainen who is on a team friendly contract of 5.4 mil until the 2023-2024 season. He could easily slot into the the second line with Tavares and would link up nice as he is a pass first winger having 21 goals and 55 assists in 82 games last season.

Jake Bean would be the top prospect in the deal. He is a 6’1 LHD and can move the puck which Dubas clearly likes in a defensemen. He is only 20 years old would fit nicely with Dermott, Sandin, Liljegren, and Hollowell for young defensive prospects in the system. Lastly, there is a high chance that the Leafs will do better than Carolina so they will probably just take their 1st rounder back from the Marleau trade.

If Dubas really wanted to waive his wand he could try and go for Pesce as well. This would most definitely include the likes of Cody Ceci in a deal along with other pieces but would definitely make the leafs have the best roster in the league. Having Rielly/Pesce, and then Muzzin/Barrie would scare most if not all teams.
