Time to add the Toronto Maple Leafs Kasperi Kapanen in fantasy hockey.

Like most fantasy hockey leagues, my league just finished up it’s first week. Luckily I was able to get away with a 6-5 win.. If there is one thing you need to learn in fantasy sports, is to never get comfortable.

Obviously there are exceptions if you’re constantly dominating (I might suggest finding another more competitive league) but you always have to look at what makes your team great and who might be holding it back. This upcoming week, I believe that Kasperi Kapanen of the Toronto Maple Leafs would be a great addition to your Fantasy Hockey team.

Now you might be saying “Chris, I have McDavid, Crosby, Hall, Matthews, Stamkos and Giroux. Why do I need Kapanen?” and my first response would be to tell you to stop playing in a 2-man league or find friends who like hockey as much as you. If you’re like me and don’t have a team that could compete with Team Canada, you need to keep an eye on players who might be able to elevate your team to the next level. Finding low-cost assets with high potential, whether its on the waiver wire or via trade.

Fantasy Kapanen

Kasperi Kapanen (Toronto Maple Leafs) is only owned in 2% of ESPN leagues which means, he is likely available in your league. Why do I think that he would be a worth while pickup? Well because you probably had to draft someone in a later round which you didn’t really care for and now they’ve under-performed in the first week and you have gotten over them. For me, the player was Jake Debrusk. While I might regret this transaction down the line, he was the right player for me to drop at this time.

Kasperi Kapanen had a solid game Sunday night against the Chicago Blackhawks with 1G and 1A for a +2 on the night. While one might say that this is just Kapanen having a hot night, the main difference is that he was on the same line as Auston Matthews. Mike Babcock makes players work for promotions within the depth chart and Kapanen definitely made a statement after Tyler Ennis failed to keep his position next to Matthews.

dark. Next. Can a Leafs Win the Art Ross and Beat Out McDavid?

While a number of situations could change Kapanen’s spot on the depth chart, whether it be Nylander finally signing a contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs or he has a few bad games (which would also make this article moot), I believe that Kapanen, given this opportunity will make the most of it and benefit your Fantasy Team.
