Toronto Maple Leafs: Did Somebody Say John Tavares?
It has been a month and a half since John Tavares signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs and I am still in shock.
John Tavares is a Toronto Maple Leaf!
Thanks for reading, that is the article!
I am just kidding, though some of you would probably rather I stopped there, but I am going to keep on writing.
Tavares, a player for the Toronto Maple Leafs, shocked the hockey world when he signed a 7 year, 77 million dollar contract with his hometown team. I did not even get to watch the breaking of the news because my family decided they wanted to go to the beach on the most important day of the year.
I recently wrote an article on how the Toronto Maple Leafs are the greatest offensive team in the NHL and I would believe that even without Tavares. Throw him into the mix and there is no question about it.
Despite never having wingers who were even close to his skill level, Johnny T was still able to produce. Having three 30+ goal seasons, as well as, three seasons where he had more than a point per game.
In 2014-15 he was second in points, behind Jamie Benn who had a four point night in the final game of the season to win the Art Ross Trophy by one point. So yes, Tavares is a really good player.
Why Am I Writing This Article?
To let you, the reader, know that John Tavares is a Toronto Maple Leaf. To let you, the reader, know that the Leafs are going to be the best team in the NHL this season. To let you, the reader, know that this is our year.
Am I annoying you yet? I hope not, because this is not done yet.
With players like Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and William Nylander on the team already, Tavares does not need to worry about carrying the offense by himself. Some games he would not even need to play against top competition. With Auston Matthews also on the roster, teams will have to choose which player will see the ice against their top line and best defense. The other one will regularly see an easier match-up that he’s ever had since entering the NHL.
Look at what both players were able to do when the other team was playing their best lines against them. They both were higher than a point per game and now some games this season, they could be playing against the other team’s second best defense. I do not even think that is fair.
So why am I writing this article exactly? Because not only is Tavares really good, but because the Leafs are really good too.
In conclusion, John Tavares and the Toronto Maple Leafs are really good.
Let me know if you think they are really good in the comments.
