It may be the offseason, but the Toronto Maple Leafs just won’t quit grabbing the headlines.

Earlier this week, I asked you all to provide me with your takes regarding the Leafs hiring Laurence Gilman as their new Assistant General Manager.

As always, you delivered.

So, without further adieu, here are a few notable opinions on the matter from you, our loyal readers.

Mark Huyge

“Isn’t he Oprah’s bestie? Does this mean she buying the team?”

(Editorial Note: I am not quite sure about that, but I’d hire Oprah as GM of the Leafs.)

LeaferForLife

“I don’t know enough about him to form an opinion. But, I will say this:  I trust Shanahan and Dubas. If they think that he’s the right man for the job, then I trust that decision completely.

Cheers and GLG”

Boyd Chase

“We will let you know when we see what he does for the team. Can’t really comment on someone who hasn’t done anything for the team yet lol”

(Editorial Note: Well, Boyd, there’s this thing called “career history” you can use to see if someone is fit for the job. It’s helpful!)

Jordan

“I’m not sure but which underrated guys did Dubas find exactly? Every writer keeps mentioning that. But, I don’t quite see the amazing finds he’s done. Any help would be great.”

(Editorial Note: Jordan, you’re in luck! I just so happened to write an in-depth piece on exactly this topic when Dubas was hired. Follow this link to check it out.

James Stuart Cripps

Laurence Gilman? Hardly a well-known name to the average hockey fan. Just a minor cog in the Leaf machine. You guys are really reaching for topics to discuss. Slow time in the hockey world? Not much interest in Canada in the Stanley Cup?”

(Editorial Note: Is there a Stanley Cup Final series being played right now? I hadn’t noticed since it doesn’t include the centre of the hockey universe, the Toronto Maple Leafs.)

Jim Jimmels

“I don’t know about this one. Wasn’t Mike Gillis fired for incompetence? If Gilman was part of that, then I don’t want him in the Leafs front office. But it is pretty funny how this hiring gets headline news in Canada over the Stanley Cup.

Sorry, Winnipeg!

Anyway, I bet he’ll be fine. Going to miss Dubas running the Marlies tho. He did a great job!”

Thank you all for continually giving Editor in Leaf one of the blogosphere’s most active comment sections! Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for another edition of “What Do You Think?” coming your way next week.
