The Toronto Maple Leafs lost to the Bruins, and Leafs Nation is spinning out of control.

Take a breath.

Now calmly, step away from the keyboard.

The world isn’t ending.

When the Leafs went down on Wednesday at the hands of the Bruins, of course fans of the team were bound to be disappointed.  When you’re leading after two periods after climbing back from a 2-0 and 3-1 series deficit, after overcoming a suspension to Nazem Kadri, you can be forgiven for thinking the game was in the bag and for letting your emotions ride high in the wake of the disappointment that followed.

But get a grip.

You’d think the Leafs weren’t a distraction from a world beset by actual important problems, or that fans of the team didn’t share a common interest.   But wow.

Twitter Sucks

The loss to the Bruins was followed by some pretty terrible idea and takes.  No matter how upset you are, no matter how bad of a game, or how unlucky Jake Gardiner was on Wednesday, he isn’t a bottom pairing defenseman.  He doesn’t need to be traded, given away, waived or bought out.

Auston Matthews isn’t in a feud with the coach.  The Leafs don’t need a new coach.  Trading William Nylander remains the stupidest idea of all-time.

The litany of terrible ideas has been impossible to avoid.

But it’s not necessary.

You might recall the following facts:

– The core of the team is made up of players 22 or under.

– Their best players are still on ELCs.

–  The Penguins didn’t make their first Cup Final until Crosby’s third year.

–  This years playoffs featured the breakout of two more star wingers.

– Morgan Rielly is a legitimate Norris Trophy candidate, giving the Leafs their first real #1 level defenseman in years and years.

–  Auston Matthews is a member of this team.

– Mitch Marner – a franchise player on any other team – is the team’s second most important player only.

–  The team has all their draft picks and tons of cap space.

–  They have the NHL’s best coach and one of it’s best goalies.

–  This team was in last place only two season ago.

–  They almost beat the Capitals last year, and the Bruins this year – meaning that their first round matchup in both years was against the NHL’s best team.  And they still almost won.

–  They are coming off a sixth overall (tie) finish in the NHL standings.

– They are the replacement of Ron Hainsey and Roman Polak away from having the NHL’s best roster.

Next: Will Leafs Change G.Ms?

I get that it was disappointing to lose, but why anyone would be anything put 100% positive about this team and it’s future is beyond me.

Get a grip.
