Toronto Maple Leafs Must Read Game 5 Primer

The Toronto Maple Leafs are down 3-1.

I don’t mind.  The Toronto Maple Leafs are going to win.  Or they’ll lose.  Who knows?

You can’t predict the future; all you can do is guess.  I think they’ll win. The reason I think that is because Matthews is due.  I think splitting up Nylander, Matthews and Marner to different lines is going to be a very effective strategy. I think Andersen is due.  I think the Kadri is going to be a huge spark.

And, well, I am a huge sucker. I would predict a win against the 2009 Penguins if they were down 3-0.  I won’t ever, ever, ever, predict a loss.

I’m a positive guy.

So let’s say the Toronto Maple Leafs will win 199 to 2.  Sounds about as accurate as any prediction I’ve ever made before.

And if They Lose?

What do I care?  If the Leafs lose, I won’t be mad, I won’t be disappointed,  I won’t be filled with angst, consternation or feelings of dread.  I will not have any woes, regrets or feelings of sadness.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are a _______ Awesome Team.

They’ve got years of Nyladner, Marner, Brown, Dermott and Rielly to look forward to.  AUSTON MATTHEWS is a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

After years of having B level stars lead our team, we’ve got arguably one of the top three players in the NHL.  A legitimate superstar (not to mention the guy is a total Fonzie) is on the Leafs.  Not the Penguins, Oilers or Blackhawks.  The ____  damned Maple Leafs.

So I don’t care if we lose.

I want to win, but if this team loses then they will learn their lessons, the mgmt will make a few moves, we’ll all fret about who’s gonna play on the fourth line next year, and we’ll wonder what went wrong, but really, we won’t care.

Because the Leafs – sixth overall in the NHL – have already exceeded expectations.  And if an unfair 1st round matchup puts the Leafs out early, who cares?  Next year they’ll be even better.

This team has the chance to win  multiple championships, and even if they don’t, it’s going to be as fun as hell to watch them try.

Mitch Marner is either your second or third best player.  That is a team you’d pay to see.

So win or lose tonight, I’m going to have a blast.  This team is awesome and they deserve your support.  Win or Lose, the Leafs have already won.

Next: So You're Saying There's a Chance?

They’re a great team on the rise.  It’s not easy to win the Cup, so maybe you gotta lose a bit first.  Who cares?
