Toronto Maple Leafs: Predicting Contract Extensions and More
MNM Prediction
Yes, Auston Matthews, William Nylander, and Mitchell Marner will need to be resigned, Nylander being eligible already.
Whether we like it or not, Connor McDavid’s contract sets the bar pretty high and will be applicable to Matthews for sure.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Matthews were to sign an eight-year deal that saw him being paid $10.5 million per season.
That may even be slightly low balling it.
Okay, let’s now look at another member of the Edmonton Oilers for comparison reasons.
Leon Draisaitl signed an eight-year extension today that sees him being paid an annual cap hit of $8.5 million.
Again, whether we like it or not, Draisaitl’s extension sets the bar high for players like Nylander and Marner.
I sound like a broken record, but I wouldn’t be surprised if both of them were to sign deals at around eight years averaging around $8 million per season.
That’s a lot of money to have tied up in just three players.
But the question is, can the Leafs afford all of this?
