Toronto Maple Leafs development camp roster is set.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have finally announced the dates, location and the roster for their 2017 Development Camp. While camp opens at the MasterCard Centre July 6 with medicals, the practice sessions begin July 7. The list of 57 players includes 38 invitees and 19 of the Leafs 2014 thru 2017 draft picks. Included are 31 forwards, 20 defencemen and six goaltenders.

While everyone’s focus turns towards free agency, these kids prepare to impress the Leafs brass and hopefully carve out a niche for themselves.

At this point, I find it interesting that Nikita Korostelev is included as an invitee. Drafted in the 7th round in 2015, Korostelev had his rights expire May 31st because the Leafs failed to offer him a contract. While I have always liked Korostelev, those in the know worry about his consistency. He is big, fast, mean and has great hands and in my opinion, should Mike Babcock find the right buttons to push (the Kadri button), this kid could one day be an incredible steal. While he has 1st round talent it comes packaged with a 7th round attitude.

While 6/7 Leafs 2017 draft picks will attend, only the mysterious Vladislav Kara is absent.

More from Editor In Leaf

In addition to Kara, Jesper Lindgren the Leafs 4th round pick in 2015 attended last year’s camp but will not attend. In addition to Kara and Lindgren, Dominic Toninato, a 2012 5th rounder and Jack Walker, a 2015 6th round pick will also not attend. Since Toninato, a centre from the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs has yet to come to terms with the Leafs, he will become a free-agent should the Leafs not sign him before August 15th. Meanwhile, Jack Walker is another question mark. Because there has been no news as to whether Walker received a formal offer by the May 31st deadline, Walker may already be a free-agent.

First, is there an undrafted dark-horse that will surprise everyone?

Second, is it possible that the Leafs will discover a centre prospect to help fill the organizational needs?

Next: Moves the Leafs Have Made

Third, is there a right-handed defenceman that will turn some heads?
