While cruising my Twitter (I can’t believe I cruise Twitter, Lord help me) I came across a tweet from Sean Tierney @ChartingHockey.

  • Matt Hunwick is a better defender than the Toronto media gives him credit for. I will not object to the Leafs bringing him back on a one-year deal. A mentor and a “Good Pro”. Furthermore, Mike Babcock knows more about running a hockey team than hockey bloggers.
  • Roman Polak is a better defenceman than Carl Alzner. He is a reliable stop-gap measure while the prospects like Dermott, Nielsen, Borgman, and Rosén continue to develop.

Brian Campbell is a possession animal. He is older than Methuselah, yet he can still play. Campbell’s overall possession numbers and scoring were down for the 2016-17 season.  While the Panthers had a brutal season, it was due to injuries more than his play. Campbell is 37 and not every athlete is Jaromir Jagr.

If the Leafs have an interest in Cody Franson, he would be an attractive right-hand option on a one or two-year contract.
