The latest on the Toronto Maple Leafs and Sami Vatanen includes a prediction.

Amongst all the speculation given out in regards to the Toronto Maple Leafs potentially acquiring Vatanen in a trade hasn’t been any prices.

The closest thing we came to hearing a potential price was when Elliotte Friedman suggested it might take the Dallas Stars 3rd overall pick.

However, we now have an idea of what it might take to get him.

Notice that I’m not saying the Leafs should or shouldn’t go after him, rather just regurgitating the information.

I’m staying out of thick of the crossfire here.

Bob McKenzie

Mark Easson of NHL Trade Rumors reports what Maple Leafs Hotstove reported about a conversation Bob McKenzie had on TSN 1050.

"I could see why the Toronto Maple Leafs would have interest in him. Fits the profile in terms of age and expereince and skill level and the attributes that he’s got as an offensive-minded, skating, puck-moving guy with power play ability. I think it makes sense."

Okay, so maybe the Leafs are interested, but let’s get right to the price.

More from Editor In Leaf

Darren Dreger had the following to say regarding the Leafs and Vatanen in the same conversation if I’m not mistaken.

"Specific to Vatanen, what is it going to cost to get that player? There is a history of trading between the Aneheim Ducks and the Toronto Maple Leafs; maybe not to this degree, but there is history there, so it does make some sense from Bob Murray’s perspective. He’s either going to want a key young piece off the Toronto Maple Leafs – and it’s not going to be any of the guys that you would expect – and I’d include van Riemsdyk in that category. And perhaps something else. Or, he’s going to want high picks and prospects.Let’s also be mindful of the fact that there will be a very strong market – there is a strong market for Sami Vatanen. Bob Murray can ask for whatever he wants and the Leafs might not want to pay it."

There you have it.

Maybe the Leafs are comfortable with their ability to shut down other players offensive abilities?

This might just be a complimentary piece.

I know that big body is what everyone wants, but it may not be what the Leafs want or even need in their opinion.

Time will tell.

We’re all just kids at a birthday party running around with blindfolds on trying to pin the tail on the donkey.
