I had some good Toronto Maple Leafs questions come in this past week.

Most of the Toronto Maple Leafs questions I received had to do with defenseman, go figure.

There’s just one on another subject that I chose to include below.

So, we’ll stick with the defensive theme for the most part and maybe I’ll get to the majority of the ones I left out next week.

Sound good?

Okay, let’s dive right into it.

Much Ado About Contracts

Yes, I like William Shakespeare and I’ve been trying to fit that title in somewhere for months, so deal with it.

Anyways, back to the topic at hand.

Now, this one didn’t directly relate to defenseman, but I’m going to turn it into something that kind of does.

It’s a tough one in all seriousness.

With so many prospects in the system and the lack of offensive need, I’m going to mainly say that if the Leafs were going to sign any, they would be a defenseman.

But, don’t forget that the Leafs already have 50 players signed, the limit if you had forgotten.

So, I’m going to chicken out and just let this run its course, maybe come back to it if something opens up.

But, still, it would most likely be defenders.

Matt Hunwick

I received this question via email.

Do you think that the Leafs will re-sign Matt Hunwick?

-Sydney Skiles

No.

If they were to resign one of Roman Polak or Hunwick, it’ll be Polak.

A guy like Travis Dermott is an upgrade on Hunwick, maybe not right away, though.

He’s already in our system, why add another contract?

Defenseman Target

More from Editor In Leaf

Another via email.

Who, in your opinion, should the Leafs target if they had to acquire someone this offseason?

-Andrew Cliss

I’m assuming he was talking about a defenseman, so I’ll just run with that.

Sorry, not sorry.

I’m up and down with this.

At one point I was all about Kevin Shattenkirk.

Then Brandon Montour.

And now I’m somewhere in between Josh Manson, Chris Tanev and surprisingly, Jason Demers.

All of which are highly dependent on numerous factors.

I’m not just blindly throwing names out there, I actually think there’s some merit behind my choices.

But, to boil it down to one player, I would say, Josh Manson, at the right price.

He’s young, good and had tremendous potential.

And for some of you, the word potential is scary, but I see opportunity behind it and that excites me.
