It’s Monday, which means it’s time to sit down and have your Toronto Maple Leafs questions of the week answered.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have more than kept up with the Washington Capitals in the first round, exceeding many expectations. They will continue their quest for the Stanley Cup Monday night in Toronto.

For now, it’s time to get away from playoff hockey and enjoy the mailbag.

I received a lot of great questions this week, but I wanted to focus in on the Auston Matthews ones. Don’t worry, I’ll be getting to the other questions next week.

Auston Matthews and His Future

More from Editor In Leaf

Question: What do Matthews next 10-15 years look like in the NHL?

Answer: This is a hard question to answer.

He came right out of the gate as a rookie smashing records and playing a complete two-way game. If he continues to trend in that same direction, I would say he will have a fantastic career.

There’s no real way to pinpoint an answer here. The best I can say is that if this kid continues to develop his game and get better, he will be one of the greatest American-born NHL players of all time.

He couldn’t have had that much better of a start to his career, so if we’re basing an answer off of that, I’d say he’s doing just fine.

Pressure to Go South

Question: Is there any pressure for Matthews to move to an American club?

Answer: Not really?

I’m sure Matthews would love to hoist the Cup in Arizona, but I don’t think that he would want to leave the Leafs organization.

Yes, he’s an American, but winning the Cup is winning the Cup. There’s more incentive to win in Toronto because of the lingering drought, so I wouldn’t put too much thought on him wanting to head Stateside anytime soon.

He knows what the Leafs future holds and I’m sure he wants to be apart of it. In my opinion, leading the charge through all of this.

Thanks and Next Week
