The NHL Draft has been around since 1963. In that time, the Toronto Maple Leafs, like all teams, have interesting facts surrounding the draft.
Which Maple Leaf draft pick has played the most games in the NHL? How about the least? Which Leafs pick has highest point total?
Remember, these are for the totals of just Leafs draft picks.
Editor in Leaf answers these questions and more. Let’s get this started.
Next: Most Games Played

Most NHL Games Played – Luke Richardson, 1417
Drafted: 7th Overall (1987)
Not who you thought it would be, did you? Who would have though that the Maple Leafs draft pick with the most games played would be a player like Luke Richardson?
While he might have played the most games, only 299 of those games were played with the Maple Leafs. He spent his first four seasons with Toronto before being traded to the Edmonton Oilers, where he would spend most of his career. He also played for the Philadelphia Flyers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Tampa Bay Lightning and the Ottawa Senators.
Richardson is currently the head coach of the Binghamton Senators, Ottawa’s AHL farm team.

Greg McKegg(39) at Air Canada Centre. The Maple Leafs beat the Senators 6-3. Mandatory Credit: Tom Szczerbowski-USA TODAY Sports
Least NHL Games Played – Greg McKegg, 1
Drafted: 62nd Overall (2010)
Ok, so he really hasn’t had the chance to make an impact with the Leafs, but he’s still the Leafs pick with the lowest amount of games played in the NHL, who has actually played in an NHL game.
In terms of retired players, Tom Martin (5th overall in 1964) and Doug Brindley (20th overall in 1969) both have played only three games in the NHL.
Next: Nearly Everything
Feb 1, 2014; Toronto, Ontario, CAN; Toronto Maple Leafs former player and Hall of Fame member
Darryl Sittler(27) is introduced from a military vehicle on Forces Night before the start of the game against the Ottawa Senators at Air Canada Centre. The Maple Leafs beat the Senators 6-3. Mandatory Credit: Tom Szczerbowski-USA TODAY Sports
Most NHL Points- Darryl Sittler, 1121
Most Hat Tricks (TOR) – 18
Most NHL Shots – 3,18
Most NHL Power Play Goals – 150
Most Shots In A Season (TOR) – 346
Most Goals In A Game (TOR) – 6
Most Points In A Game (TOR) – 10
Most Points In A Period (TOR) – 5
Drafted – 8th overall (1970)
Sittler might just be the best Leaf of all time with all the records he holds. Sittler played 12 seasons with the Leafs, playing a total of 844 games with the team.
Next: Most Assists

Most NHL Game-Winning Goals – Vincent Damphousse, 78
Most NHL Shorthanded Goals – 17
Most NHL Assists – 773
Drafted: 6th Overall (1986)
Damphousse might have been drafted by the Maple Leafs, but he is probably known more for his time with the Montreal Canadiens and San Jose Sharks. He enjoyed most of his success with the Canadiens, winning a Stanley Cup with them in 1993.
Next: Most Penalty Minutes
Feb 1, 2014; Toronto, Ontario, CAN; Toronto Maple Leafs former player
Tiger Williams(22) is introduced from a military vehicle on Forces Night before the start of the game against the Ottawa Senators at Air Canada Centre. The Maple Leafs beat the Senators 6-3. Mandatory Credit: Tom Szczerbowski-USA TODAY Sports
Most Penalty Minutes – Dave Tiger Williams, 3,966
Drafted: 31st overall (1974)
This one isn’t really hard to guess. I mean, the only player that comes close to Williams’ total is Tie Domi. 1,670 of those 3,966 penalty minutes came as a member of the Maple Leafs.
Next: Most Goals
Dec 31, 2013; Detroit, MI, USA; Toronto Maple Leafs former forward
Lanny McDonald(7) scores a goal during the Alumni Showdown against the Detroit Red Wings as part of the Winter Classic at Comerica Park. Mandatory Credit: Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports
Most NHL Goals – Lanny McDonald, 500
Drafted: 4th Overall (1973)
It’s fitting that two players that were great friends during their time with the Leafs have the highest amount of points(Sittler) and goals out of players drafted by the Maple Leafs.
Unfortunately, the era that the two played in was the first of the Leafs of having no success as a team. These two were at least fun to watch.
