I’m a little disappointed in myself that as a Conan O’Brien and a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, I had never seen this classic clip before. I’m sure many of you probably have, but I just thought I would share it to bring a little levity to your Monday morning.

This video from 2004 shows Conan doing a bit of training with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He gets to drop the gloves with Tie Domi at one point, and even Ken Klee and Tom Fitzgerald make an appearance. Early on he remarks that hockey isn’t his sport, but “I’m pretty sure within the hour I’ll be the best hockey player here.” Now Conan is a funny guy, but sadly with that group his statement might not be all that ludicrous.

He also has some ideas for equipment changes, like when he puts on a massive helmet that looks like it could pretty much stop concussions cold. Or his idea for creating a massive net that would probably increase scoring by 500%. I guess Conan was not a fan of the dead-puck era. However, perhaps his most impressive feat was when he was taking shots on net and made Trevor Kidd look like Patrick Roy.

Who knew Mark Wahlberg and Tie Domi were good friends? Wahlberg was in Toronto for a charity event called CIBC’s Miracle Day and challenged Domi to a boxing match at the Air Canada Centre. Wahlberg said the fight would be a good idea for some entertainment since there is no hockey in Canada right now. Thanks for reminding us Mark.

Wahlberg of course is an actor who has starred in such movies as Ted, The Italian Job, Invincible, and Planet of the Apes. He is also a producer on HBO’s critically acclaimed series Boardwalk Empire. Not to mention his awkward career as a rapper with Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch during the early 1990′s.

So why is Wahlberg so adamant about getting his hands on a longtime NHL enforcer? To raise a little money for charity it seems. He started a little trash talking as well, saying that he would give the teeth he knocked out of Domi’s mouth to charity also. Then they both began arguing about who had the bigger head and took some eyeball measurements. Domi clearly came out on the short end of that contest.

Domi ultimately passed on the fight citing he didn’t want to screw up Wahlberg’s pretty face and movie career. If they did come to blows, however, I wonder who would come out victorious. If the fight was on the ice I would have to go with Domi, as he probably is a better skater than Wahlberg. Keyword there being probably. If it was contested in the ring, Wahlberg may have the upper hand thanks to fitness and a better reach.

Sadly it doesn’t look like we are going to find out who the winner would be. Come to think of it, if you have any recollection of FOX’s short-lived disaster Celebrity Boxing, then we are probably better off not knowing.
