Toronto Maple Leafs prospect and Moose Jaw Warriors defenseman Morgan Rielly was named Western Hockey League Player of the Week on Tuesday. Rielly posted four goals and an assist over the week to earn the award. He also finished with a plus-3 rating during the three game stretch.

The Warriors defeated the Prince Albert Raiders in Moose Jaw 4-1 on February 12^th and Rielly was named First Star after recording two goals. The smooth skating defenseman found the back of the net twice more on February 16^th during the rematch back in Prince Albert. Rielly also added an assist and was again named First Star after a Warriors 4-3 win.

Rielly has posted 11 goals and 44 points in just 47 games so far this season with Moose Jaw. He is currently the WHL’s fourth leading scorer among defenseman.

After a strong performance at this year’s World Junior Hockey Championship, Rielly headed to Maple Leafs training camp where he impressed many in the organization. However, head coach Randy Carlyle felt the 18-year-old defenseman could use a little more development and sent him back to Moose Jaw. The Leafs selected Rielly fifth overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
