Korbinian Holzer was issued a five-minute major and a game misconduct for a hit from behind last night on Philadelphia Flyers forward Tye McGinn. However, although some believed Holzer was going to be hearing from the National Hockey League about a possible fine or suspension for the infraction, that doesn’t appear to be the case.

Sportsnet.ca is reporting that the Leaf defenseman won’t be receiving a hearing or any other additional discipline from the league. The incident occurred in the second period of the Leafs’ 5-2 victory and it looked a lot worse than it was. Holzer essentially pushed McGinn from behind when he was in a vulnerable position. While it wasn’t all that malicious and it is tough to make a split second decision with the speed of the game, players need to be more mindful of other skaters when their backs are turned.

McGinn was forced to leave the game for a while, but did return to score the second goal for the Flyers. Luckily for the Leafs Holzer won’t have to sit out any games as they are still without Carl Gunnarsson due to injury, and Jake Gardiner remains with the Toronto Marlies. Holzer has two goals and 19 PIM with the Leafs this season.
