Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Mark Fraser suffered a facial fracture between the eyes and cranial area after getting hit in the face with a puck last night. Fraser doesn’t wear a visor and was struck by a Milan Lucic slap shot.

The scary incident left everyone concerned, but Randy Carlyle said Fraser has already undergone surgery and is resting at home today. The blueliner had a solid season with the Leafs after recording eight points to go along with a plus-18 rating.

The Bruins now lead the series 3-1 and Game 5 will take place on Friday back in Boston. John-Michael Liles is expected to take Fraser’s place in the lineup in the win-or-go-home game for Toronto.

There was little update today about the status of Toronto Maple Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul. He left Thursday’s game after being sandwiched in a big hit from the Philadelphia Flyers Adam Hall and Jay Rosehill. Lupul was woozy as he left the ice and needed to be helped to the locker room.

Head coach Randy Carlyle stopped short of saying Lupul had a concussion and the team is only labelling it as the dreaded upper-body injury. He will have tests done on Friday in hopes of truly determining the extent of the injury.

Lupul won’t be traveling to New Jersey and will sit out the Leafs’ game against the Devils tomorrow night. It’s a tough blow for Lupul who has already missed 25 games this season with a broken forearm.

It’s also going to hurt Toronto as they push for the post-season. Lupul has recorded 14 points in seven games since his return from injury. Hopefully for the Leafs this latest setback won’t be as lengthy.

The only good news was that Clarke MacArthur, who has been out of action for nearly two weeks with an upper-body injury of his own, replaced Lupul at practice and skated with Nazem Kadri and Nikolai Kulemin.
