Yahoo’s Puck Daddy blog continues their Summer of Disappointment series with the Toronto Maple Leafs, a delightfully depressing outlook on the team from Pension Plan Puppets. I can’t really disagree with any of the choices, although I’m too young to remember Wilf Paiement or the Wayne Gretzky High Stick.
Jeff Veillette of The LeafsNation profiled Toronto Marlies defenseman Andrew MacWilliam, the 15th overall player in their ranking of the Leafs’ 20 best prospects. MacWilliam faced the toughest competition and had the lowest quality of teammates on the Marlies (per Josh Weissbock’s numbers), so that’s a positive sign even though he barely produced any offense.
EA Sports released a new trailer for the NHL 15 video game and has more than a few hockey fans upset about how it represents women in a new “selfies” feature. Greg Wyshynski of Puck Daddy has the details on the feature many are calling sexist.
Nate Silver of FiveThirtyEight first published a piece looking at potential NHL expansion markets and estimating which ones had the most and least fan avidity. As Neil Paine of FTE shows, neither Seattle nor Las Vegas (the latter by a proverbial country mile) are viable markets. But then again, neither are Phoenix or Tampa Bay.
