Toronto Maple Leafs News & Notes: August 26, 2014

Even though it was only a few, it’s exciting to see that some Toronto Maple Leafs started skating together today at the MasterCard Centre. Among them is David Clarkson, who everybody is hoping will be able to rebound from an awful first season in the blue and white. Lance Hornby of the Toronto Sun spoke to him about what he’s been up to over the summer, and why many are optimistic about his upcoming season.

Ryan Lambert discussed the interesting dynamic surrounding the Leafs’ coaching staff and front office for Yahoo Sports. How much power does general manager Dave Nonis really have any more? Will head coach Randy Carlyle be able to adapt to president Brendan Shanahan’s philosophy? We’ll find out soon enough.

The Top 25 Under 25 from clrkaitken and the boys from Pension Plan Puppets continues with number 21, Teemu Hartikainen. It’s highly unlikely he’ll ever play for the Toronto Maple Leafs down the road, but he was already a proven bottom-six forward with the Edmonton Oilers and continues to produce with Ufa of the Kontinental Hockey League. Who knows? Maybe one day he’ll pull a Leo Komarov and cross back over the pond.

The dudes at The LeafsNation have their own prospect ranking going down. First up are the honourable mentions to the Top 20 from The Justin Fisher. There are some pretty good hockey players on this list.
