For the month of August, Editor In Leaf will take a look at the Toronto Maple Leafs roster, previewing what could happen in the 2014-15 NHL season. Next up is another newcomer, Mike Santorelli.
Years With Leafs: Zero
Mike Santorelli was one of the last few additions the Maple Leafs made this offseason. However, it might be one of the smartest.
While Santorelli isn’t the biggest name out there and wasn’t even the biggest name the Leafs brought in, he could be a very useful addition to the bottom six. He, in my mind, is the front-runner to be the fourth-line center, however he could also play the wing position.
Even though he will likely be in the bottom six, Santorelli could be a good secondary source of scoring for the Leafs. Last year with the Vancouver Canucks, he scored 10 goals and added 18 assists for 28 points in 49 games. If he can keep up that type of production for a full season, that will help the Leafs quest for a playoff spot quite a bit.
A shoulder injury kept Santorelli out of the game for just under half the season. He hasn’t had much problems with injuries so hopefully he won’t have any more problems this year.
