Toronto Maple Leafs Need To Improve As Soon As Possible

The Toronto Maple Leafs continue to be thrown around in rumors, whether they be about the first overall pick or getting rid of captain Dion Phaneuf. However, there is one team in the Eastern Conference that is actually making moves to make themselves better for next season.

That team is the New York Islanders. They have made two trades already this off-season. First, they acquired the rights to Jaroslav Halak from the Washington Capitals. They successfully signed him, giving them a proven starting goalie. They then acquired the rights to defenseman Dan Boyle from the San Jose Sharks. It is doubtful that they can sign him, but you know that the Islanders are trying to win and win now.

Now, the Leafs were playing well enough for most of last season that they were challenging for one of the Atlantic Division playoff spots. Of course, by the end of the season, they would have fighting for a wild card spot had they not played so horribly late in the season.

If the Leafs end up having to settle for battling for a wild card spot again next season, the Islanders could be one of the teams that they will be fighting with. The Islanders will just be one of those teams. Plenty of other non-playoff teams will be making additions in the off-season so it’s important that the Leafs move fast.

If they don’t, well then they will be sitting on the sidelines watching others play in the playoffs once again.

Stupid stupid headline. Trying to rush to improve is exactly what the leafs do not need to do.
