Toronto Maple Leafs News & Notes: June 6, 2014

Tyler Biggs is a 2011 22nd overall pick who was a healthy scratch in the playoffs for the Toronto Marlies. Needless to say, his development hasn’t exactly gone as planned. Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star spoke with the big winger who Brian Burke traded up to take on draft day. He says he’s not worried about how his first season as a pro went, but when I see guys like Brandon Saad and John Gibson excelling in the NHL, I don’t share his ho-hum attitude.

Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment president and CEO Tim Leiweke is proud of what his former employer, the Los Angeles Kings, have accomplished and continue to accomplish, winning Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final over the New York Rangers last night. Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun spoke to the MLSE boss about the Kings and what the Toronto Maple Leafs need to do to reach their level.

Anthony Petrielli and Gus Katsoros joined Michael Langlois in the latest Maple Leafs Hangout on Maple Leafs Hot Stove. I’m a big fan of both Anthony and Gus’ work, so I highly recommend giving it a listen.

The Toronto Marlies cleaned out their lockers yesterday, and Jeff Veillette of The LeafsNation cleaned out his mailbag, answering a few questions on the Toronto Maple Leafs’ American Hockey League club as he looks back on the year that was.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman could be seen laughing maniacally at the league’s head office the moment the matchup for the Stanley Cup Final was announced (probably). Game 1 of the series between the New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings drew record ratings, which is obviously a great sign for the league and NBC with Game 2 coming up tomorrow. James Mirtle of The Globe and Mail has more on that.
