Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet reported yesterday that the Toronto Maple Leafs are shopping captain Dion Phaneuf. He also reported Ottawa Senators captain Jason Spezza could be on the move. Could a Phaneuf-for-Spezza trade between the two provincial rivals work? Jared Crozier of SenShot takes a look at an idea that will probably never happen but kinda-sorta makes sense at the same time.

Nazem Kadri and Morgan Rielly are in Belarus along with goaltender James Reimer and the rest of Team Canada at the World Championships. The two young players were asked about head coach Randy Carlyle’s extension, and they weren’t surprised and they’re happy and they think Carlyle is a great coach because what else do you expect them to say? Story from Stephen Whyno of the Canadian Press.

The Leafs are expected to make a lot of changes to shake up their roster in the offseason. Scott Cullen of TSN released his offseason game plan for the Leafs, and takes a stab at trying to figure out who stays and who goes on a team that underperformed last year.

Sean McIndoe (a.k.a. Down Goes Brown) joined Michael Langlois and Michael Stephens for the latest Maple Leaf Hangout on Maple Leafs Hot Stove yesterday. The guys discussed the Carlyle extension, the Dave Bolland decision, Tim Leiweke’s hubris and a ton of other stuff.

The Toronto Marlies continued their playoff dominance with their fifth straight win (four of which have been on the road), taking a commanding 2-0 series lead over the Chicago Wolves. Peter Holland, Trevor Smith, Josh Leivo and Jerry D’Amigo all scored and Drew MacIntyre made 22 saves in the 5-2 win. Jeff Veillette has the recap for The LeafsNation.

The Chicago Blackhawks grabbed a 3-2 series lead over the Minnesota Wild with a 2-1 victory last night. JenLC of Second City Hockey compares Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville with Carlyle and finds some reasons why Quenneville has been much more successful than his Leafs’ counterpart.
