Randy Carlyle’s Future With The Toronto Maple Leafs Still Uncertain

It’s been almost two weeks since the Toronto Maple Leafs season ended and we still have yet to hear any news to whether or not the Leafs will fire head coach Randy Carlyle.

To make sure the Leafs off-season goes off without a hitch, the Leafs will have to make a decision regarding Carlyle sooner rather than later. Sure, a coaches job is primarily done in-season, but having your coach for the next season in place before you make the moves of the off-season helps determine what those moves are.

TSN’s Darren Dreger weighed in on the issue on TSN 1050. Courtesy of Hope Smoke on Twitter, here is what Dreger said.

So, from Dreger, we can gather that the Leafs might not fire Carlyle and if they do, it will take another week or two to decide. Toronto Sun writer Steve Simmons also put in his two cents.

If Simmons is correct, then the Leafs upper management has to get on the same page pronto. Technically, even though Nonis is the General Manager, if his two bosses, Tim Leiweke and Brendan Shanahan, say to fire Carlye, he shouldn’t have a choice.

Whether Carlyle stays or goes is a big piece of the Toronto Maple Leafs off-season. The decision needs to be made soon for the sake of the Leafs future.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Nonis wants to keep Carlyle. If that’s the case, they both need to go.

He’ll be back. #3 will be back. #71 will be back. #41, #33, #81 and so on, will be back. therefore #25 in the standings will be back. Oh, and all the fans will be back to support these misfits.

Judging by the comments his agent made, I think Kulemin’s days as a Leaf are over.

His days as a hockey player were over 5 years ago. Hasn’t anybody noticed?

Tim is not a hockey person so he should stay the hell out of it,Shany and Dave should make the decision. I look for him to stay but be given a short rope in the fall if they are playing poorly by Dec. then replace him.

I hate to admit it, but I might be rooting for the Leafs to lose as much as possible in early part of the season if Carlyle’s still around.

    Larry Robinson!

    • D.WAdair

      Larry can’t take the heat.

      • Tim Bayer

        What does that even mean?

        • D.WAdair

Larry was asked many times to be a coach and he turned them all down, head coach didn’t interest him but he might have made a good one.

If Carlyle returns the only thing for certain will be 26th place in the standings.
Carlton would be a better fit for this group.
