Well, it‘s do or die tonight. Although if they don’t, they won’t necessarily die. That is pretty much the situation the Toronto Maple Leafs find themselves in tonight as they face off against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Leafs can be eliminated from playoff contention if they lose tonight and the Columbus Blue Jackets win their game against the Phoenix Coyotes. Sure, the Leafs could stay in it if both teams lose but obviously it would be better if they can come out with a win. The Leafs are three points behind the Blue Jackets so a win coupled with a Blue Jackets regulation loss would put the Leafs only one point back with two games remaining. Of course the problem is that that the Blue Jackets have three games remaining after tonight.
All that is in front of the Leafs is a team that features one of the best goal-scorers in the NHL in Steven Stamkos. If the Leafs can’t stop the Lightning’s offense, they will be leaving their destiny in the hands of someone else. This will be the toughest game remaining for the Leafs. After the deflating loss against the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday, the Leafs need to get their game back tonight.
