The Toronto Maple Leafs play their final home game of the season tonight against the Atlanta Thrashers  Winnipeg Jets. With the Columbus Blue Jackets losing last night against the Chicago Blackhawks, the Leafs have a chance to leapfrog them into the last wild card playoff spot.

It will be another big test tonight as the Jets come in having recently been eliminated from playoff contention and have nothing to lose. James Reimer will get the start as he looks to once again drive the Leafs into the playoffs after Jonathan Bernier was injured in Thursday’s  win against the Boston Bruins. On paper this looks like a pretty easy win for the Leafs; Ondrej Pavelec is not a good goaltender and Evander Kane is a healthy scratch. I know the Leafs never do this but if they do get off to a good start maybe they can win the shot battle as the Jets D is as bad as the Leafs.

Game Notes:

  • Hopefully the Leafs’ first line can really make something happen. That line has been terrific all season and this Jets team is not very good so the likes of Kessel, van Riemsdyk and Bozak should be able to get to Pavelec early and often.
  • This is the last home game of the regular season for the Leafs and it would be sweet if they could send their fans home happy by getting in a playoff spot (albeit precariously). These fans pay good money and the Leafs have been somewhat of a disappointment.
  • Playoffs in Toronto are fun. Make it happen.
