The Leafs and Flames both started the game playing a tightly checked, restrained brand of hockey. Neither side looked to control the pace of the game and consequently the two periods did not contain too many highlights. Jay McClement broke the tie with a goal 50 seconds into the second period, ex-Leaf Matt Stajan tied things up later in the period when he split the Toronto defense for a breakaway and beat Bernier through the five-hole. Both teams opened up more in the third period, Dave Bolland scored his second in as many games and David Clarkson broke a 17-game scoring drought on a breakaway. Kris Russel scored next goal to get the Flames back into the game, but the Leafs tightened back up defensively after the marker and did not concede any more, the game ending 3-2.
