Toronto Maple Leafs. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is simple: Win your remaining five games.
Okay, maybe it’s not so simple, but that is what they have do if they want to ensure they make the playoffs. They will still need help but the Leafs will have to do their part.
The Leafs eight-game losing streak saw the Leafs playoff chances dwindle. Yet, here we are, with the Leafs only one point back of the Columbus Blue Jackets for the second and final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.
It won’t be easy, especially with the team they face tonight to start it off their last five games. Tonight, the Boston Bruins visit the Air Canada Centre. Of course, we all know the Bruins were the team that eliminated the Leafs from the playoffs last spring. Another win by the Bruins would effectively do the same again this season.
If the Leafs can somehow find a way to beat the Bruins, either in regulation or overtime/shootout, then they only have slightly less-challenging opposition. After the Bruins, the Leafs face-off against the Winnipeg Jets at home and then close out the season with a three-game road trip with games against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers and Ottawa Senators.
Of course, teams like the Blue Jackets and Washington Capitals will have to lose a lot of their games to give the Leafs any hope. These last few games should be quite interesting.
