The news was good concerning Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Jonathan Bernier. The MRI he had revealed only a groin strain and he is only out day-to-day. That is definitely the news that the Leafs were looking forward to hearing.
However, even if Bernier is healthy enough to return before the playoffs, should they put him back in the net?
Let’s just say that James Reimer can keep the Leafs successful for the rest of the season and keep them in top three of the Atlantic Division while Bernier is out. Would the Leafs keep Reimer in the net with a healthy Bernier on the bench if Reimer is performing well?
If they did, then the Leafs would have a decision to make when the playoffs start. Do they stay with the goalie that that was with them in the stretch run or do they go back to the goalie they acquired to be the No. 1 goalie?
Bernier wanted to leave Los Angeles because he wanted a chance to start on a more regular basis. You can be sure that he wants to be in the Leafs net in the playoffs. Judging by his performance this season, he should be. Should they rest him up until then is the question being asked.
