New York Rangers vs. Toronto Maple Leafs (Game Number 64) Live Thread

The post-trade deadline portion of the NHL schedule begins tonight as the Toronto Maple Leafs visit historic Madison Square Garden for a tilt with the New York Rangers. The Leafs stood pat at the deadline while the Rangers landed the biggest fish on the market: Martin St. Louis.

Unfortunately for the Leafs, St. Louis is expected to play tonight. He’ll probably slot in on a line beside his old buddy from Tampa Bay, Brad Richards. St. Louis is eighth in league scoring with 61 points in 62 games, and tied for fifth in goal scoring with 29.

The Leafs called up Carter Ashton and Peter Holland from the Marlies today. Holland is expected to be the third-line centre while Ashton will probably get fourth-line minutes. After taking the night off on Tuesday, Jonathan Bernier will be back in net for the Leafs, while I would imagine the Rangers will counter with Henrik Lundqvist.

For everything else you need to know about tonight’s game, give Jeff’s preview a read. As always, stay updated with the Twitterverse here:

Share your thoughts on the deadline and on the game tonight in the comments. This will be a very tough game for the Leafs to win because they’ve struggled against the Rangers this season, and they’ve become even stronger with St. Louis in the lineup. I think the Rangers will win 4-2.

Nevertheless, GO LEAFS GO!!!
