Toronto Maple Leafs News & Notes: February 28, 2014

It’s late Friday afternoon, but in case you haven’t seen the highlights from last night’s New York Islanders-Toronto Maple Leafs game, here’s the Game In Six:

The Leafs blew three different leads in the game, had a few disastrous giveaways that led to goals and allowed five goals against a bad team playing without its best player. A banner game, this wasn’t.

For more on the game, check out recaps from us, Jonas Siegel, Pension Plan Puppets and The LeafsNation.

The trade deadline is next Wednesday, and general manager Dave Nonis is likely to have plenty of decisions to make before then on who to keep, who to sell, and who to buy. James Mirtle of The Globe and Mail offers six Leafs you’ll probably hear plenty of in trade rumours over the next five days, and their likelihood of being moved.

One of the players Mirtle mentioned is Dave Bolland. Bolland will presumably make his return from injury soon, and when he does, how he performs will likely go a long way in determining what the Leafs decide to do with him, as he becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. As Tyler Dellow of Sportsnet writes, the Leafs must be very careful in how they approach contract negotiations with Bolland’s camp.
