Canada Blanks Sweden 3-0 To Win Gold

Canada does it again! With a 3-0 domination of Team Sweden, Canada earns the gold medal in back-to-back Winter Olympics.

The game could be described as nothing less than flawless for Team Canada. The opening goal came in the first period off a  perfect tip from Jonathan Toews. Sidney Crosby would add to this with a beautiful breakaway tally of his own in the second, followed by Chris Kunitz‘s snipe in the third to close the curtains on the game and ensure Canadian gold.

This game was a perfect example of how a textbook hockey game is played. Right from the drop of the puck, Canada poured on the pressure, leaving the Swedes struggling to contain the energized Canadians. The third period especially was an incredible one for Team Canada. They came out with their 2 goal lead knowing exactly what needed to be done. They shut down Sweden to the point where they had difficulty just getting the puck over Canada’s blue line.

Along with the great play by Canada came the goals to show for it. All three of the goal scorers got their first of the tournament in this game, picking a great time to do it. Crosby, again, comes up huge in the most important game of them all. You can criticize Sid all you want for his point total leading up to this game, but there is no denying how clutch he is in the single game that matters the most.

The great play from Canada’s defence was certainly a highlight of their tournament. The blue line not only did a wonderful job at putting the puck in the opposing team’s net, but did an even better job at keeping it out of their own. The performances of Drew Doughty and Shea Weber should be especially recognized for their dominance throughout the entire tournament.

Along with strong defensive play came the stellar performance of Carey Price between the pipes. He was sharp when he needed to be, stopping every puck that came his way. Price was perfect all tournament, shutting out the skilled offensive teams of the US and Sweden.

In all, Canada just played the perfect hockey game, and entire tournament, that simply couldn’t be matched. The Red and White dominated the Swedes in every aspect of the game, and finished off their amazing Olympic performance on an incredible, golden note.
