Canada and USA squared off in the semi-finals to decide who would go on to compete for gold, and who would fall short and play Finland for bronze. This must-win game for both countries had all fans on the edge of their seats.
The game was fast paced and saw both teams getting quality chances, but the two goalies stood on their heads the entire game. Carey Price and Jonathan Quick were no doubt the MVPs of this game, as without either one of their performances this game could have had a much different look.
The lone tally in this game came in the second period from Canada’s Jamie Benn, with a perfect tip off of a Jay Bouwmeester shot. The puck found a way past Quick, and would be enough to give Canada a 1-0 victory, as well as a meeting with Sweden for gold on Sunday.
Team USA will play Finland on Saturday to see who will walk away with a bronze medal. The US offense wasn’t able to get anything past Price in the semis, but they have certainly proved throughout the tournament that they are able to put up tons of goals. The offense, as well as having Jonathan Quick between the pipes, will provide Finland with an extremely tough match against this talented United States team.
Canada will play Team Sweden on Sunday morning for the gold medal, in which both teams will go into the game undefeated. Although Canada hasn’t scored too many goals in the tournament, they have been extremely successful at keeping the puck out of their net. If their goal total in this game will be anything like it has been in the past three, they’ll need to make sure that they can shut down the skilled Swedes.
With the gold medal on the line, the stage has been set for the incredible excitement that will lead up to, and immediately follow the drop of the puck.
